Calcium acetate, a white, crystalline salt or granules with a faint vinegar-like odor, is produced by reacting acetic acid with calcium hydroxide. Its hygroscopic and has a slightly chalky texture. Calcium acetate, a phosphate binder specifically formulated for CKD patients, is a calcium salt of acetic acid, soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. It exists in both anhydrous and monohydrate forms, with the monohydrate being the most common.
